2023/2024 term dates

Fall Term: August 13th, 2023 - December 15th, 2023

Spring Term: January 7th, 2024 - May 10th, 2024

Summer Term: June 2nd, 2024 - July 27th, 2024

term details

  • Tuition is charged by the term, billed as 5 equal installments in Fall Term, 5 equal installments in Spring Term, and 2 equal installments in Summer Term.

  • Tuition includes a total of 33 lessons and 1 group class over the course of the school year (August through May ). In the summer term (June and July), there are a total of 8 lessons in the summer term.

  • Payment stays the same regardless of the number of lessons a student actually receives in a single month, as the payment is merely an installment. (On average, students receive 4 lessons per month, though some months will contain either 5, 3, 2 or even 1 lesson.) No credits or refunds are given for missed lessons.

  • Tuition is only pro-rated when students begin lessons mid-term, change their lesson length mid-term, or if Miss Amy must cancel a lesson.

  • Tuition is always due before or on the 1st business day of each month.

notes on summer term

  • The summer term is short, lasting eight weeks.

  • Students may continue with regular lessons during the summer term OR opt to schedule 1-3 individual lessons per month to allow for vacations and camps. If choosing the latter, you must let Miss Amy know how many lessons you would like to receive by the first of each month so she can bill you accordingly. (Individual lessons will be available in 40 or 60 minute sessions and will be billed at the individual lesson rate of $55 per 40 minute lesson and $70 per 60 minute lesson.)

  • Summer lessons are encouraged, but not required. If you choose not to take summer lessons, however, I cannot hold your spot in the studio. If you will not take summer lessons, but want to keep your lesson spot, you must pay half tuition for June and July in order to reserve it.

  • There are NO make-up lessons in summer term.

payment

  • Payments may be made at Amy’s Piano Studio using cash or check, or online using Venmo, Cash App (user name for both is amycainpiano) or Zelle.

  • Payment is due on or before the 1st business day of each month in order to hold your place in the studio.

  • If your payment is more than five days late, you will be charged a $10 late fee, billed with the next month’s tuition.

  • Lessons are nonrefundable. Once you make your payment, you are, in effect, committing to one month of lessons.

holidays, vacation, etc.

A Thanksgiving break, winter break, spring break and two summer breaks are built into the schedule each year. See the 2023/2024 school year schedule above to view when these breaks occur.

Generally speaking, I WILL be teaching on most other holidays, such as:

Labor Day

Easter Sunday

Memorial Day

Independence Day

MLK Day

Good Friday

Rosh Hashanah

Veterans Day

MAKE-UP POLICY

Each piano term, every student is allotted ONE make-up lesson during make-up week at end of term. They can use this make-up lesson in the case of an excused absence*, which is defined as follows:

1.) Parent or student cancels their lesson on My Music Staff app at least 24 hours in advance of an expected absence.

2.) A student becomes ill, and the parent or student cancels on My Music Staff app as soon as they know they will be unable to attend.

3.) Winter weather prevents a student from coming to their lesson, and the parent or student cancels on My Music Staff app as soon they know they will be unable to attend.

No-shows and last-minute cancellations that do not result from sickness/winter weather are NOT considered excused absences!

*If more lessons are cancelled outside of this one excused absence, parents do have the option to try to pick up another student’s cancelled lesson on the My Music Staff app if they have make-up credits to do so, however it is not guaranteed that lessons will be available.

practice policy

  • Daily practice of at least five days per week is expected. The discipline of daily practice leads to progress, which in turn motivates the student to continue practicing and progressing.

  • It is the parent’s responsibility to schedule and enforce daily practice. The assignments that I give each week should be viewed as “homework” and treated as such.

  • Practice times vary depending on the age and level of the student—I will give you a more detailed idea of practice times when your student begins lessons with me.

  • Students who do not practice regularly will be put on probation. If the situation does not improve by the end of the school year, that student may be dropped from the studio.

other fees

  • repertoire, theory and sight-reading books ($25-$100 per year)

  • Piano Guild fees ($30-$50 per year)

  • recital fees, if applicable ($5-$10 per student)
